Around a year ago things started ‘hop-ping’ at a craft brewery in Scarborough, Ontario when Common Good Beer Co. opened its doors to the public. Not only does Common Good produce its own beer, it is also a contract brewery. There is enough room here to help local craft brewers produce their beer too. The partner brewers have complete control over the brewing and packaging of their brands. Common Good also offers up assistance in many ways including recipe development and logistics.
It’s all part of the company’s vision of strength in numbers and doing its part in bringing the local craft brewing community together and offering up the best to beer lovers. It was originally called Coalition Brewers but due to a trade mark issue with a brewery in the US, the name was changed.
The masterminds behind this venture are Jamie Mistry and Scott White. Mistry is the former Brew Master of Amsterdam Brew Co. and has 25 years of brewing experience. White has more than 20 years on Bay Street and a passion for brewing.
Currently you can find Common Good’s Sociable Pilsner, made with German Huell Melon Hops, at the LCBO. In the Common Good retail store, there are a variety of the Small Batch Series to choose from. While at the brewery, be sure check out what’s on tap and take the time to sample a few which is what I did with some of my co-workers one day. We purchased some eats just own the street and sat down and enjoyed a few flights and each others’ company.
On your way out you can also purchase some Common Good Beer gear.
Common Good Beer Company is located at 475 Ellesmere Road in Scarborough, Ontario.
